2023: IKWUANO OKADA RIDERS ENDORSE COL. AKOBUNDU (RTD) FOR SENATE, ABIA CENTRAL.*
With just four (4) days to the elections, commercial motorcyclists (a.k.a Okada) under the auspices of Okada Riders Association (Ndi Engine) in Ikwuano LGA have endorsed the candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Col. Austin Akobundu (rtd) for Senate, Abia Central.
This endorsement was made at La Escape Hotel & Resort, Umugbalu, Off Nnono Junction in Ikwuano LGA, where the group in their large numbers unanimously agreed to work and mobilize for the landslide victory of Col. Akobundu at the forthcoming general elections this Saturday.
According to the leaders of the various units of Okada Riders, the reason for unanimously coming up with their resolution was on the heels of the selfless performance of Col. Akobundu.
The leaders declared that the PDP Senatorial candidate is the most suitable candidate who has the pedigree to effectively represent the people of Abia Central. They applauded Col. Akobundu's humanitarian services and milestone achievements in terms of infrastructure, education, and youth empowerment.
Responding, Col. Akobundu said, "I am delighted at this endorsement and I accept it wholeheartedly. This endorsement will serve as a precursor to a fruitful relationship because you are already part of my developmental plans for the youths of Abia Central".
"I am a firm believer in youth development, instead of youth empowerment, because development has a longer span than empowerment. I won't ignore the immediate succor that empowerment brings, but I will focus more attention on developing you so that you can be self-sufficient."
"On the flip side, do not listen to rumor mongers who murmur and say I have done nothing as a "government official". The only elected position I have ever held was a ministerial appointment which only lasted for 2 months and 9 days."
"However, as a party man, I have attracted roads, school blocks, civic halls, and given jobs to our people. Now that you are sending me to the National Assembly, you can expect more because your group will form part of the clusters we will work with."
"So, do not be afraid. You have made the right decision by endorsing me. I won't disappoint you." He concluded.
From their various responses, the group reaffirmed that they are proudly and firmly standing with Col. Akobundu, stating that he has been exceptional and has paid his dues.
The PDP candidate was accompanied by members of his entourage which included the Honourable member representing Ikwuano State Constituency, who is also the candidate for the PDP, Hon. Stanley Nwabuisi, the immediate past Local Government Chairman, Chief Stephen Mpamugo, the immediate past Leader of the legislative council, Hon. Obinna Agaodi and others too numerous to mention.
